Will Judy Latchman Revoke Bail on 21 October and Remand Azruddin Mohamed?
On 16 October, Magistrate Faith McGusty acknowledged that Azruddin Mohamed and his henchmen were engaged in the heinous criminal conduct of (at a minimum) witness intimidation when charges were brought before her court. The magistrate then made a strange decision to grant bail with conditions that specified the defendant should “stay away from the home of Prem Narine”.
How do you acknowledge a criminal act yet not apply basic corrective measures?
This decision is a slap in the face of the Guyana Police Force and its members. It says clearly that the magistrate doesn’t give credibility to the charges and/or the safety of policemen in or out of their homes.
All that matters is that the man with money be free on bail (no money and Azruddin Mohamed would be eating prison food for months).
The next hearing in the extradition matter is on 21 October (if not postponed) before Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman, where Senior Superintendent Prem Narine (Head of Special Branch) will continue his testimony in the witness box.
The big question is: will Magistrate Latchman offer any protection to the witness in HER courtroom? Will the prosecution raise the issue of witness intimidation and ask that bail be revoked? Will Judy Latchman do the right thing? Lol.
As always, I am sure we know the answers to these questions, for in Guyana, “money talks, and then criminals walk”.
