New park opens at No. 63 Beach in Region Six
No. 63 Beach has a new recreational park, the largest developed under Guyana's National Recreational Protocol, with facilities for families and visitors.
The recreational space on the Corentyne coast is the largest developed so far under the National Recreational Protocol.
Families visiting No. 63 Beach on Guyana’s Corentyne coast now have a new recreational park with a children’s play area, walking paths and seating.
First Lady Arya Ali officially opened the park on October 14 as part of the National Recreational Protocol. It is the 18th facility developed under the programme and the largest so far.
The facilities also include gazebos, washrooms, lighting and vending kiosks.
For families who visit the beach to fly kites, relax or spend time by the sea, the park offers additional spaces to walk, sit and play.
Opportunities for local businesses
At the commissioning ceremony, Ali said she hoped the park would create new opportunities for local vendors, small businesses and entrepreneurs.
She said the project was made possible through collaboration between the government and the community, with contributions from the Ministry of Public Works, the Regional Democratic Council, contractors and other stakeholders.
Ali described the development as more than beautification, saying it forms part of efforts to create spaces that support residents’ physical, mental and social well-being.
She also encouraged residents to take ownership of the park and help protect the facilities for future generations.
