GEORGETOWN — Breast cancer screening and oncology services are becoming more widely available outside Georgetown, with mammography now offered at regional hospitals in Suddie, Linden, New Amsterdam and Lethem, according to the Department of Public Information.

The regional services complement mammography available at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and expand access to breast screening beyond the capital.

Cancer care has also been strengthened at New Amsterdam Hospital, where oncology services are available, while GPHC continues to provide specialised oncology care.

At GPHC, pathology services supporting cancer diagnosis have also been expanded. The hospital's pathology and laboratory services were reopened and upgraded in 2024, rather than introduced as a new service this week.

The wider network means more patients can access screening and some cancer services closer to where they live.

Current appointment procedures, referral requirements, waiting times and costs may vary by facility, and patients should confirm those details directly with the relevant hospital.
